Services
Optometric Services: General Eye Care begins with
a comprehensive eye examination for everyone from infants to adults
which evaluates the following areas:
- Eye Health (including diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, dry eye,
muscular degnertion, cataracts and diagnosis of diabetes & hypertension)
- Visual function (including binocularity, depth perception, and the
ability to follow, fixate and focus the eyes efficiently)
- The need for glasses and contact lenses and their proper use (distance
and/or near; part of full-time)
- Evaluation of the internal and external health of your eyes.
Contact Lenses: Same day service is available for
most prescriptions. We prescribe hard and soft lenses, gas permeable,
bifocals, disposables and tinted lenses. For patients with special needs,
such as high astigmatism or keratoconus, custom designs can be prescribed.
Eyeglasses: We provide all types of prescription eyeware.
Our in-office optical laboratory offers all of the new High Index, transitions,
progressive addition and aspheric ophthalmic lenses that are on the
market today. In addition, we also display over 1,000 frames and sunglasses
in all styles and price ranges. If necessary, 1-hour service is available
on most prescription eyeglasses.
Vision Therapy: Some visual problems cannot be corrected
with contact lenses or glasses; vision therapy provides the opportunity
to learn to use the two eyes in a more efficient manner. When two eyes
coordinate well, more visual information can be received and comprehended.
Students who easily coordinate their eyes read faster, understand more
of what they read and retain longer. Drivers who use their eyes well
together see more efficiently and tire less. VDT operators who are experiencing
eye strain, headaches and other related visual symptoms may be helped
with vision therapy, improving visual information processing benefits
every area of an individual's life: school, home, play, work, and social
relationships.
Vision therapy is a series of eye and vision activities specifically
designed to enhance such skills as eye teaming, focusing, eye movements,
peripheral vision, depth perception, visualization, and visual perception.
Vision therapy is particularly effective in treating:
- visually related learning disabilities
- strabismus (crossed or "wall" eyes)
- amblyopia (lazy eye)
Since vision is learned and develeped throughout life, prevention and
rehabilitation (improvement) of visual skills is not only possible,
but highly desirable.
Therapeutics: Dr. Ruiz has been certified by the Texas
Board of Optometrists in the examination, diagnosis, treatment and management
of diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye and associated
structures as well as the diagnosis of related systemic conditions.
Optical Services: Whenever corrective eyewear is required, it is essential
that your prescription be accurately filled. It is equally important
that your eyewear fit properly, particularly on the bridge and at the
temple. They should feel comfortable and be kept straight an in adjustment
at all times.
